Taxi licences - hackney carriage vehicle licences

All hackney carriages that operate within the Vale of White Horse District must be licensed under the terms of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 and the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

How to apply for a licence

To apply for a licence, download and complete the attached application form on the right.

Bring the completed application form to either Abingdon or Wantage Local Services Points together with the following:         

• Vehicle registration document     
• Insurance certificate   
• Non-refundable licence fee - for details of fees please see the attachment on the right. Cheques should be made payable to the Vale of White Horse District Council. 

How to renew a licence      

If you wish to renew an existing hackney carriage licence, download and complete the attached renew a licence application form and return it together with the appropriate documentation and fee, as set out above.                

How to transfer a licence to a new car

Should you wish to change your vehicle during the life of the current vehicle licence, you may do so by applying for a transfer licence. Download and complete the attached transfer a licence application form and return it together with the appropriate documentation and fee, as set out above.
