Affordable housing in the Vale

The Council does not own or manage social housing in the Vale – this is all owned and managed by several Housing Associations.

However the Council does run the Housing Register and the Choice Based Lettings scheme, whereby we nominate people on the Housing Register to housing associations when a suitable home becomes available. For more details about this please see our How to apply for housing pages.

The Council is also dedicated to ensuring the continuous development of new and suitable social housing within the Vale. It is also keen to reduce the number of long-term empty properties in the District so those houses can be brought back into use to help meet housing needs. The Council also carried out regular housing needs surveys to ensure that it has an accurate picture of the housing need in the District.
