Housing Needs Survey

The Council undertakes regular housing needs surveys as part of its ongoing work to assess and address the need for housing within the District.

A new assessment was carried out throughout July and August 2008 to obtain up-to-date information which will enable housing officers to assess current housing circumstances as well as the present and future housing needs of people living in the District.

The Council commissioned David Couttie Associates (DCA) to undertake this research. The postal survey is now complete and we would like to thank all residents who took time to complete and return your questionnaires.  Your views are very important to us and we are very pleased to have received more than 1,200 completed questionnaires. Returns were evenly spread across the whole District, giving us robust information not only for the District but also at area level.

The questionnaires are now being analysed by DCA with a final report expected to be available by the end of the year when a summary will be available on this page.

The survey will help the Council to decide the type and quantity of housing required in the District, within the forthcoming Local Development Framework, and will also be used to demonstrate the need for funding to Government and housing providers.  This research will also support the Council’s priority of delivering affordable housing within the Vale of White Horse.
