Complaints about councillors
Local Code of Conduct Complaints process
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE EXPECTING THE CODE OF CONDUCT AND THE COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE TO CHANGE FROM 1 JULY 2012.
FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE CHANGES SHOULD BE AVAILABLE BY THE END OF MAY ONCE WE HAVE LEGISLATION TO ENABLE US TO MAKE THE CHANGES.
All councillors and co-opted members of local authority committees are required to comply with a code of conduct. The code of conduct sets out the ethical framework within which they must operate.
The council is responsible for considering complaints that a councillor or co-opted committee member may have breached the code of conduct.
How to make a complaint
This change in responsibility means that if you wish to make a complaint about the conduct of a Vale of White Horse District Councillor, or a member of one of the town or parish councils in the Vale, you must submit your complaint to:
The Standards Committee
Vale of White Horse District Council
Abbey House
Abingdon
OX14 3JE
01235 540305
email: democraticservices@whitehorsedc.gov.uk
How will this complaint be dealt with?
If you make a complaint relating to the Code of Conduct, which a sub-committee of the Standards Committee will consider, the complaint must state why you think a councillor or a member of a Vale parish or town council or a co-opted committee member has not followed the Code of Conduct.
The assessment sub-committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a councillor, a member of one of our parish or town councils or a co-opted member. It will not deal with complaints about matters that are not covered by the councillors' Code of Conduct such as standards of Council service. If you wish to make a complaint about a Council service see Complaints.
