Vale Networking Group

The Vale Networking Group brings the district council together with other public service providers in the area as well as representatives of the business, voluntary and community sectors.

The Vale Partnership was set up by the district council to help it prepare its first community strategy in 2004 and helped the council to prepare the second community strategy (now sustainable community strategy) in 2008.

As local strategic partnerships are now no longer a statutory requirement, the district council carried out a review of the partnership with Vale Partnership board members in spring 2012.

The review heard that a number of partners were facing significant reductions in funding and/or were being restructured. Some partners had ceased to attend board meetings for these reasons.

A new networking group

There was agreement at the July 2012 Vale Partnership meeting to disband the partnership and instead of formal meetings to keep in touch informally.  Partnership members keep a database of partners' contacts’ for the purpose of sharing information. The district council launched an online bulletin board’ for partnership members to share information, discuss issues, publish relevant information and receive alerts when the site is updated. This pilot page helped to strengthen links between the active members.

You can still download minutes from past partnership meetings (see Download section of this page). There is also a link to the Community Places Project final report (1.6 MB) PDF .

Notable achievements of the partnership itself include:

  • preparation of the community strategy for 2004-2008 and the community strategy 2008-2016
  • support for the annual voluntary sector forum
  • adoption of the faith charter confirming that all partners recognise the important contribution that faith communities make to quality of life in the Vale
  • healthy eating project
  • community development support in Cumnor (Pinnocks Way)
  • Community Places project – South Abingdon, Berinsfield and Great Western Park

The existence of the partnership as a forum has made it easier to bring together the partners required for these projects to be successful.

The group is now known as the Vale Networking Group and continues to keep in touch and share information.
