Car parking off street parking order 2011
This consultation is now closed and we are analysing the responses.
The council sought comments on new regulations in its car parks (the car park order). This order sets out the council’s plan to introduce two hours free parking, related changes and charges for 2011/12 at council owned car parks in the Vale of White Horse.
The proposed changes include:
- the introduction of a 'no charge' period of two hours
- the need to display a ticket to park for free
- no return to the car park for another free period
- the charge period – the time when a ticket must be displayed - changing from 8-4pm to 8-6pm
- charges for parking periods of more than two hours to rise by 30p
- an increase in permit charges
Councillor Matthew Barber, leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “The big change being proposed is the two hours of free parking – this has the potential to benefit both residents and businesses in the area’s towns.
"If things go to plan we will be able to implement the changes by the start of December which will be great news for anyone shopping or doing business in the run-up to Christmas.
"For many people two hours is enough to go shopping or attend appointments. Very few places in the UK are this generous, but we need to know what people locally think.
"There are also some other detailed changes being proposed that are needed to help us run the car parks efficiently but, again, we are asking for people’s views before anything is decided.”
How the council will use your comments
All comments received will be carefully considered and will be reported back to the council’s cabinet. If needed, changes will be recommended to the order to respond to any issues raised.
Anyone who has taken part in the consultation will receive a response to their comments and feedback will also be made available on the website.
What happens next
The council’s cabinet will be asked to consider the draft order at its meeting on 11 November, taking into account any comments made as part of the consultation. If the order is approved, signs will be added in all car parks clearly explaining what changes are being made, and from what date these are being implemented. We would also promote the changes on our website and in publicity via the local media.
