The Council is responsible for naming and numbering properties in the area. This work is carried out by the Vale’s Address Management Officer.
Developers of new houses that need to be named and numbered should contact the Address Management Officer with a site layout marked out with the plot numbers.
They also need to provide any street names they propose to give to the road(s) for consideration. These cannot be guaranteed as they may conflict with others in the area, and the Town or Parish Council may have other proposals.
Developers should make contact with the Address Management Officer - using the contact details on the right - as soon as possible so they can consult with the relevant Town or Parish Councils and other external agencies such as the Royal Mail, which checks whether or not the proposed road name will conflict with another locally. Once agreed Royal Mail will reserve the postcode.
We would strongly suggest you do not use your desired address or print any letterheads or stationary until you have a formal notification from us as to your new address.
Before people move in to the new housing, the developer will need to contact Royal Mail Postcodes to bring the new postcode online.
It is very important to get properties formally named by the Council and to use the correct address for them as emergency services; gas, water, electric, and telephone companies and insurance companies will all locate the property by the information we provide.
Street name plates for new developments are supplied and installed by DSO and then recharged direct to the developer at a standard fee – for more details see Street name plates.
