Bird scarers
Bird scarers are used by farmers to protect crops from attack by birds.
However, if used thoughtlessly the device – which imitates the sound of gunfire - can seriously annoy and disturb neighbours.
The Environmental Protection Team may be able to deal with noise problems caused by bird scarers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
If a farmer is considering using a bird scarer we would advise they follow the good practice guidance as outlined in the National Farmers Union Code of Practice on use of bird scarers.
