Homelessness is an unavoidable situation and the Council has a statutory duty to help people who find themselves in this position.
The Council has a duty to provide accommodation only to certain "priority" groups. These may include families with children, households with a pregnant person or individuals that are considered vulnerable such as the elderly, disabled or persons with mental health issues.
Households that are accepted as statutory homeless are normally provided with temporary accommodation and have a limited time period to bid under the Choice Based Lettings scheme before being made one suitable offer of accommodation by the Council.
To find out more about how the Council is working to prevent homelessness please download its Homlessness Strategy from the right of the page.
