New council makeup
There were significant changes at the council at the elections on 5 May. The Conservative Party took control of the council, securing their majority with 31 of the 51 seats on offer (an increase of 13), with the remaining seats held by the Liberal Democrats (19) and Labour (one). Voters in Vale also overwhelming rejected changing the voting system from the current first past the post to the Alternative Vote (AV) system, with 30,510 voting No and 14,740 Yes.
This means the council has a new leader and a cabinet to replace the old executive. Full council met on 18 May to officially elect the new leader and cabinet.
