A big opportunity for women to get active

Released on June 8, 2012

Calling all ladies in the Vale of White Horse! Would you like to get more active this June and take part in a series of free sports sessions?

The sessions, which take place during the week commencing Monday 11 June, are part of the Active Women project, which targets females over the age of 16 to help them get involved in sport so they can stay fit and healthy.

The week of activities will give women the chance to improve their badminton skills, have fun while on a run, or rediscover their love of netball.

The courses take place at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, Audlett Drive, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 3PJ.

Sessions are as follows:

  • Badminton  – Monday, 9:30am to 10:30am
  • Born to run – Wednesday, 7pm to 8pm
  • Cardio Tennis – Thursday, 10am to 11am
  • Back to netball – Sunday, 7pm to 8pm

The sessions are led by expert coaches and will take participants through the basic skills, help to improve fitness and encourage people to get back into an activity.

These sessions will give women a taste of Active Women sessions and will hopefully encourage those taking part to attend classes on a regular basis.  They are also ideal for people who have never played or are returning to sport after a break.

All Active women sessions are for those aged 16 and over and all abilities are welcome.

Cllr Elaine Ware, cabinet member for economy, leisure and property at Vale of White Horse District council, said: “The sessions will provide a fun way for women to get active and meet other people. We hope to see as many women as possible taking advantage of this opportunity.”

So why not come along to these fun packed activities and release your active self!
