Bank holiday bonus as new play equipment is up and running in Wantage park
Children in Wantage can play on a whole host of new equipment which has been installed in Manor Road Recreation Ground.
The new swings, see saw, climbing area, roundabout and other equipment were declared officially open at a special celebration involving children from Wantage C of E Primary and local councillors on Thursday 26 May, just in time for the bank holiday weekend.
The new equipment has been installed following a campaign from the local community which saw residents raise £10,600 towards the upgrade. Vale of White Horse District Council provided the remaining £67,640 and arranged the installation.
Cllr Elaine Ware, Cabinet Member for Corporate Strategy at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “From what we saw today I’m sure children from Wantage and the wider area will love the new equipment and will spend many hours enjoying themselves there for many years to come.”
Raymond Collins, who led the local fundraising efforts, said: “The children of Wantage now have a fantastic place to play safely. I am extremely proud to have played a small part in securing for generations to come to enjoy.”
