Get out and about this Christmas with free family orienteering events

Released on November 28, 2017

Residents can enjoy getting out and about in the run up to Christmas with free family Xplorer orienteering events in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse.

There are two events you can come along to:

  • Saturday 9 December, 10am to midday - Bullcroft Park, Wallingford
  • Saturday 16 December, 10am to midday - Wantage Memorial Park, Wantage.

Participants will follow a simple Xplorer map to find 15 brightly coloured Christmas markers spread across the park. No skills or experience are required, this is a fun Christmas activity the whole family can enjoy together. There will also be Christmas challenges and games.

Entrance is free with no booking required.  Please register on the day at the starting point from 10am to 11am, this will ensure everyone can complete the course by midday.

Tell your friends about the sessions by clicking the ‘interested’ button on the Wallingford and Wantage Facebook event pages.

The events are being organised by British Orienteering’s Xplorer, South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District Council.

Cllr Lynn Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Leisure at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “These events will be a great way for people to get out and about with the family, taking on a fun and healthy challenge.”

Cllr Charlotte Dickson, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “It’s great that we’re able to stage free and easy to access events like this for residents to take part in.  I hope lots of families come along to the sessions to enjoy this fun orienteering challenge in the run up to Christmas.”
