Which workplaces does the council have enforcement responsibility for?
The enforcement of Health and Safety at work legislation is shared between the council's food and safety team and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It depends on the type of business as to which authority has enforcement responsibility.
Workplaces which the council has enforcement responsibility for include:
- shops and retail
- warehouses
- offices
- catering
- residential homes
- leisure activities
- consumer services.
Workplaces which the Health and Safety Executive has enforcement responsibility for include:
- nuclear installations and mines,
- factories
- farms
- hospitals and schools
- offshore gas and oil installations.
