Takeover day

Takeover Day 11 November 2011

The Children's Commissioner organises an annual event to encourage businesses, schools and other organisations to give children and young people the opportunity to take over from adults.

Oxfordshire County Council co-ordinate events across Oxfordshire and in the past young people from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse districts have run training sessions for councillors and officers to raise awareness of children's rights.

The training gives both adults and younger people the chance to discuss issues around children's rights and make a pledge to support initiatives such as Takeover Day to promote children's rights across Oxfordshire.

In November 2010 Oxfordshire County council hosted the first children's parliament for primary school children across Oxfordshire run by young people.  This included children's rights training for 26 primary school teachers.   Each year a large number of takeovers take place across the County
