SMS Council Tax Reminders
Vale of White Horse District Council is now using SMS - text messages to remind residents that their council tax is due. This will help reduce the cost and improve the quality of services that the council provides.
Each month we have to issue reminders to a number of residents who, for a variety of reasons, have not paid the latest instalment of their council tax. Obviously, we'd rather not send any reminder notices, as this costs a lot of money in terms of printing and postage, so we are looking at other ways to contact residents effectively and prevent further formal recovery action being required.
How does it work?
An automated message is sent to your mobile or home telephone to remind you that your council tax instalment is overdue. The message will display the amount of council tax due, your account number, the phone number to call to make a payment, and the council’s website address where payment can also be made.
How do I sign up?
You can register to receive the automated messages by contacting the council tax department using the details in the Contacts section of this page to register your mobile or home phone number.
Who sends the text message?
The text message is sent by Capita, the company which collects council tax on behalf of the council.
Do I need to respond to the text message I receive?
No - you are not able to respond to the message, as it is simply a reminder that your council tax is overdue. If you need to contact the council tax team because you have moved or wish to wish to pay by direct debit in the future please use the contact details on this page.
Will I receive marketing or junk texts from this?
No. The service is totally confidential. Your telephone number, which has previously been provided to the council tax team by you (or a member of your household) is only held on the council tax database and is not used for any other purpose.
This service will not generate any other marketing or text messages to your phone and no other company or organisation will be given your number for marketing purposes.
You will only receive a text message if you have previously given us your telephone number to contact you and if we need to send you a council tax reminder.
