Fees and how to pay

How much does it cost to apply for planning permission?

It depends on what sort of application you're submitting and what you propose to do: for guidance, see the fees list. The government sets the fees.

The Planning Portal's fee calculator helps you work out the cost of an application. You can use it to calculate the cost of a simple householder development or large scale schemes such as housing schemes or industrial estates.

Paying for your application

Please note your application can't be processed until we receive payment.

When applying through the Planning Portal you can pay online for all types of application when you submit your application.

You can also pay for your application online on our website by card once you've submitted your application and you've received either a Planning Application Reference (e.g. P16/V1234/HH) or a Planning Portal Reference (e.g. PP-123456).

This facility is not available for pre-application advice or permitted development requests.

You can pay using a debit or credit card for all types of application once they have been submitted and you've received either a Planning Application Reference (e.g. P16/V1234/FUL) or a Planning Portal Reference (e.g. PP-123456) by calling the Customer Services Team on 01235 422600.

Alternatively you can send a cheque for the appropriate fee made payable to Vale of White Horse District Council to the Planning Department (see contacts section of this page for address).
