Alexa Lee, 10 from Appleton Primary School OVOEWT Flag Design Winner

OVO Energy Women’s Cycling Tour a success for Oxfordshire

Despite the gloomy weather forecast, the rain held off for the OVO Energy Women’s Tour and didn't spoil the carnival atmosphere, as hundreds of residents and school children turned up along the route to watch and cheer the riders on.

The race was officially started in Henley by Alexa Lee, aged 10, from Appleton Church of England Primary School (Abingdon), waving her very own flag! She won this year’s design competition.

The riders received a warm welcome as they passed through the towns and villages of Oxfordshire.  School children came out to cheer at Watlington, people rang cow bells on Wallingford Bridge and many came out to Didcot for the sprint and then Harwell.

The people of Wantage had decided to make a day of it with music in the central Market Square and school children lining the route; whilst Faringdon had turned pink for the day.  Faringdon Folk had dressed their town, themselves and their pets in pink and made a really special effort to celebrate the race.  The race then moved onto West Oxfordshire before finishing at Blenham Palace.
