Consultation on new taxi licensing policy

We want to know what you think of some changes we’re proposing to make to the taxi licensing policy for Vale of White Horse.

The proposed new policy aims to promote the highest possible standards to:

  • protect the public;
  • maintain and develop professional and respected hackney carriage and private hire trades;
  • ensure an efficient and quality local transport service; and
  • encourage environmental sustainability.

We have included more robust safety measures as well as changes to help us support our corporate priorities of tackling the climate emergency and building healthy communities.

Let us know what you think

You can give us your views by completing our survey.

Before you begin, please feel free to read this summary of changes we have made to the old policy, which also explains the reasons for the changes.

Some of the changes we have made are to reflect changes in legislation and guidance since the policy was last reviewed.

We have also taken into account the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Statutory Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Standards, which were published in July 2020.

We have also included an extra question about CCTV in licensed vehicles, which is not covered in the policy.

The consultation will run for six weeks from 10 February and the deadline for completing the survey is midnight on 24 March 2021.

If you have any queries about the consultation process or require any of the consultation material in an alternative format (for example: large print, Braille, audio, email, Easy Read or alternative languages) please email or call 01235 422425.
