Disposing of vehicles

Help is available from the Council for dealing with unwanted vehicles, whether they are in your ownership or have been abandoned.

Dispose of your unwanted vehicle

If you want to get rid of a vehicle, we would advise that you first find details of a car dismantler in Yellow Pages and contact them to see if your vehicle does have some value.

If not, the Council can arrange for your vehicle to be collected and disposed of for a charge of £46.75 (including VAT).

To order this service please complete the vehicle surrender form on the right of this page and return it to the Council along with payment and the vehicle’s V5 form (log book).

Abandoned vehicles

You can report an abandoned vehicle using our online form on the right of the page.

We only have powers to remove vehicles when we are sure they have been permanently abandoned by their owners. Therefore when we receive a report of an abandoned vehicle we will serve a seven-day notice on the vehicle and send a letter to the last registered owner informing them that it has been reported as abandoned and advising them to contact the offices within the specified time, or the car will be removed and destroyed.

If an abandoned vehicle if causing an obstruction, for example it is blocking access to someone's property or has been left in a dangerous position or condition, you should  report this to Thames Valley Police by calling 0845 8 505 505.
