Abbey Shopping Centre and Charter Area Supplementary Planning Document

Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) adopted by Council

We have been hard at work trying to make sure that the Abbey Shopping Centre and Charter Area in Abingdon are places where locals and visitors want to shop and socialise.  To this aim we employed consultants Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design to produce a development brief for the redevelopment of the area.  The document describes the characteristics of the area and sets out development principles that developers should follow when drawing up proposals. The SPD does not go into detail regarding the specifics of the development options, as further consultation on this will take place at the formal planning application stage.

Following consultation, which you can read about below, the Vale Council adopted the SPD on 14 December 2011. The final SPD, accompanying Sustainability Appraisal and the adoption statement can be found in the downloads section of this webpage.

Consultation results - Your comments

Thank you to all of you who have responded to our consultation.  Your comments were considered by the Cabinet on 11 November and Full Council on 14 December. As a result of your comments, a number of changes were made to the draft document and these are set out in the consultation statement which can be downloaded from the downloads section of this webpage.
