Driving offences 

The police are the lead agency when it comes to dealing with incidents of dangerous driving (e.g. speeding offences, overtaking dangerously) and careless or inconsiderate driving (e.g. driving too close to another vehicle).

Vehicle nuisance  

We recognise that the antisocial use of cars, bikes and mopeds can really affect people’s feelings of safety in their local communities (from risk of injury and property damage to the impact of vehicle noise pollution).  

Police officers have the enforcement powers to deal with activities like: 

• street racing 

• driving vehicles that have modified exhausts that are excessively noisy/loud  

• riding unlicensed powered vehicles on public roads and pavements  

• riding off-road quad bikes or trail bikes in public parks 

• doing wheelies and doughnuts in car parks on public roads

Please note that the district council’s Environmental Protection team does not have the statutory powers to investigate traffic noise or noise from vehicles on the public highway.
