Don’t lose your vote – residents urged to respond to voter registration email 

Residents who receive a Voter Registration Canvass email this September are being urged to respond as soon as possible.  

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Districts Councils are sending requests to more than 88,000 properties requiring the householders to check and confirm their voter registration details are correct. 

The canvass helps the councils to keep the electoral register up to date, to identify anyone who risks missing their chance to vote at any upcoming elections, and to encourage them to register before it’s too late.  

Residents are advised that the councils’ Voter Registration Canvass email will come from a different, longer email address: electoral.services.south.oxfordshire.and.vale.of.white.horse.district.councils@notifications.service.gov.uk  

With local elections taking place in May 2027, this is an opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part. It only takes a few minutes to respond online, and each household only needs to respond once, even if more than one person living there receives the email. 

Please act now and respond using the steps below 

  • If you receive a Voter Registration Canvass email – just visit the website HouseholdResponse.com/SouthAndVale – enter your unique property codes found on your email and then update and submit your household information. Please include the names and nationalities of everyone aged 16 or above at this address. 
  • If you add any new names to the property – they will also need to complete a separate registration application. They can do this at gov.uk/register-to-vote.  

Susan Baker, Deputy Electoral Registration Officer at South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils, said: “The annual canvass helps to ensure that the electoral information we have for every address is accurate and up to date. To make sure you don’t lose your say in any upcoming elections, simply follow the instructions sent to you.  If someone responds to the email, it also saves the public money as we don’t have to follow up by sending a letter to their property.” 

Recent home movers are strongly urged to check their details. Electoral Commission research has found that recent home movers are less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time. In Great Britain, 92 per cent of those who have lived in their home for 16 years will be registered, compared with 36 per cent of people who have lived at an address for less than a year.

Notes for editors 

The deadline to respond to the email is 2 October.  Properties who do not respond, or who have not provided an email address to their district council, will receive a Voter Registration Canvass letter through the post from 19 October.
