Funding available for community climate projects – apply now!
Communities in the Vale have another chance to apply for funding to help grass roots projects aimed at tackling climate change.
Local groups and town and parish councils can apply for a share of £50,000 from the latest round of Vale of White Horse District Council’s Climate Action Fund, with up to £5,000 on offer for individual projects.
The funding is aimed at projects that help to address climate change and increase people’s awareness and knowledge of the climate emergency. Work could focus on areas such as the natural environment, energy, waste and consumption, or transport and travel.
In addition to hearing from existing groups, the council is particularly keen to support newly established climate groups.
Earlier this year, the council awarded funding to 13 projects across the district, following the first round of funding. These included a scheme to establish a sustainability community hub in Shrivenham and a project which will train people to carry out simple energy saving improvements in homes in Botley.
Cllr Sally Povolotsky, Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency and Environment, said: “While the most significant impact on the climate emergency will come from action taken globally, we should never underestimate what we do all we can at a local level to influence, make and facilitate meaningful change. We had some brilliant projects and organisations apply when we launched the Climate Action Fund earlier this year and it’s a testament to how many groups we have working in the environmental arena in the vale, however this time we want to see even more communities submit applications and climate focussed projects happening across the district.”
Cllr Bethia Thomas, Cabinet Member Community Engagement, said: “Every action, no matter how small, will make a difference. Applications are open until midday on 25 November 2022.
