Abingdon based CCTV hub opens offering enhanced safety for Vale residents

Published 6 October 2026

A new countywide CCTV control room has launched in Abingdon, bringing enhanced crime prevention across Oxfordshire.

The new hub at Abingdon Police Station brings benefits including upgraded CCTV technology and enhanced monitoring capabilities.

The hub is part of the Thames Valley CCTV Partnership. District councils in Oxfordshire, including Vale of White Horse District Council, have transferred their public space CCTV to Thames Valley Police, with investment from the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and ongoing district council funding to enhance the provision across the county.

Cllr Helen Pighills, Cabinet Member for Communities at Vale of White Horse District Council, reflected on what the change will bring for Vale’s communities:

“It was a pleasure to attend the launch of the new CCTV hub in Abingdon last Friday. Having negotiated the best deal for our area, the new hub will now bring us many benefits, building on our previous investments. It is an excellent example of partnership working for the greater good. We are content to hand over the baton to Thames Valley Police, having worked hard to ensure our residents will continue to be well protected by the system into the future. Alongside guaranteed continuity of coverage, our communities can now benefit from upgraded technology and enhanced monitoring under the new arrangements.

“This partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when local authorities and policing partners work together. The new hub will strengthen CCTV provision across the Vale and help ensure the service remains effective and sustainable for the future.”
