Community organisations get a boost from the White Horse Community Lottery

Community organisations across the Vale of White Horse will receive more than £8,000 this year through the White Horse Community Lottery’s community fund.
The White Horse Community Lottery is run by Vale of White Horse District Council and was launched in 2021.
The lottery raises money for local good causes through ticket sales. Participants can choose to support a specific local charity or contribute to the central community fund.
The fund is distributed each year to organisations that sell twenty tickets per week or more by the end of the financial year and support local communities.
Since launching, the community fund has distributed a total of £39,543 to local good causes.
Cllr Helen Pighills, Cabinet Member for Communities at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “We know many local charities and community groups are under pressure, with rising costs and increasing demand for their services. This funding helps them continue delivering vital support.
“The White Horse Community Lottery gives residents a simple way to support local good causes while taking part in a weekly draw. Every ticket sold helps raise money that goes directly back into the community.
“The organisations supported this year make an important contribution to communities across the district, and we’re delighted that the lottery can help recognise and support their work.”
Sustainable Shrivenham is one of the organisations receiving funding, getting £771 They help local people live more sustainably by sharing information, skills, and resources to support everyday green choices.
David Wray, Co-Chair, Sustainable Shrivenham, said: “We are delighted to receive this additional unrestricted funding. It will help us continue providing sustainable living resources and practical guidance for the local community, while creating volunteering opportunities that bring people together, build skills, and foster new connections.
“Funding of this kind is particularly valuable because it provides flexible financial support that allows us to focus our time and energy on reaching our goals.
“We would encourage other community organisations to consider signing up to the White Horse Community Lottery. It is a simple and effective way for residents to support local good causes while helping community groups generate sustainable funding.”
The lottery is free for organisations to join and tickets are just £1, with a chance to win a top prize of £25,000.
