Closed circuit television cameras (CCTV)

The Vale of White Horse District Council currently operate and manage the CCTV scheme in Abingdon, Wantage, Didcot, Thame, Henley and Wallingford town centres.

The schemes help improve the detection of crime and reduce the fear of crime in the town centres. The scheme is funded in partnership by Thames Valley Police, the Vale of White Horse District Council, South Oxfordshire District Council and Abingdon, Wantage, Didcot, Thame, Henley and Wallingford Town Councils.

As well as being used to detect crime and disorder, CCTV is also used to monitor traffic, assist in locating missing persons and give advance warning of fires or other emergency situations.

The CCTV Control Room is located in the police station in Abingdon where Vale of White Horse District Council staff are employed to monitor the cameras.

The CCTV cameras are operated according to a Code of Practice adopted by the Thames Valley CCTV Users.
