Under the Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963 anyone who carries on the business of providing accommodation for other people's cats and dogs is required to have a licence. This also applies to home boarding establishments.
The aim of the licensing requirement is to achieve certain standards in the management of the boarding accommodation and to ensure precautions against issues such as disease and fire. This is achieved by attaching relevant conditions to this licence.
This licence needs to be renewed annually and requires the payment of the appropriate fee (and runs from January to December). Fees for the calendar year must be paid in full when the application is made.
