Pay your council tax

Council Tax is payable by ten instalments between 1 April and 1 January. If you are billed later in the year the number of instalments may be reduced. Bills for previous years and ceased liabilities are normally payable in full within 14 days.

If you choose not to pay by monthly instalments you can pay the whole year's bill on 1 April or pay half on 1 April and half on 1 October.

How and where to pay

Direct Debit

The most cost and time effective way to pay is by Direct Debit. Instalments are taken from your bank or building society account on the 1st of each month. If you already pay by Direct Debit this will be shown on the front of the bill and your payments will continue to be taken from your bank or building society account. If you wish to pay by Direct Debit, please contact the Council Tax Section by calling 0345 302 2315. We can now set up a direct debit over the telephone saving you the need to complete a paper mandate.
