Abbey Meadow, Abingdon

The Abbey Meadow is a delightful park at the end of Abbey Close in Abingdon; the River Thames forms the southern boundary.

We'll soon be making a number of improvements to the area, you can find out about these by visiting Abbey Meadow improvements.

  • by car via Abbey Close. There is a pay-and-display car park directly next to the park.
  • by river tying up at the moorings site. 
  • by foot through the historical Abbey Gardens at the rear of the council offices, along Abbey Close, or from Audlett Drive through Crab Tree Place.
  • good cycle links with the Sustrans Cycle Route running through the park.


The park has a large area for informal play, a well-equipped play area and an interactive water feature.  Please note - the play area and interactive water feature are dog-free areas.

During the summer you can enjoy outdoor activities, including:

  • A nine-hole pitch and putt course
  • Crazy golf course
  • Hard surface tennis courts.

The pitch and putt, crazy golf and tennis courts re-open for the season on Friday 25 March 2016.

See the attached documents (downloads section of this page) for opening times, prices and contact telephone number for the pitch & putt, crazy golf and tennis courts kiosk.  Opening times may be subject to change due to weather conditions.  Contact the kiosk attendant on 07879 640752 for confirmation that the facility is open.

Summer Tennis Court Use 2016

If you want to use the tennis courts when the facilities are closed, you can buy a key that allows access to the courts during daylight hours.  The key will be valid for use from 1 April 2016 to 30 September 2016.

You can buy a key from Abingdon Customer Service cash office Abbey House, Abbey Close, Abingdon during cash office opening hours of 10.00am – 12.00pm.

The cost quoted is for payment by cash or debit card.  If payment is made by credit card a 1.72 per cent surcharge is levied on top of these prices.

No matter which day of the month the key is purchased the same cost applies to the whole of the month.
