Science Vale and Enterprise Zones
Science Vale is a significant area of economic growth and is a global hotspot for enterprise and innovation. Spread across South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse districts, it is home to a significant proportion of the region’s scientific research and development as well as high technology businesses. The region has an international reputation as a first-choice location for companies wanting to make their mark in business and research.
There are two Enterprise Zones within Science Vale: Science Vale UK and the Didcot Growth Accelerator. The largest single site is on the eastern half of Harwell Campus, with further sites in and around the Didcot and Milton areas, at Milton Park and the former Didcot A power station.
Enterprise Zones are designated areas aimed at stimulating economic growth by offering incentives to businesses to establish or expand their operations within them. Business rates growth income from the Enterprise Zones is retained and reinvested in the local area. Enterprise zone income has helped to fund improvements to the A34 Milton Interchange, the A34 Chilton Slips and a number of other infrastructure projects in Science Vale.
