The next General Election must be held by 3 June 2010.
However, it could be held anytime before then.
To ensure that you are able to have your say you need to be registered to vote.
To register, simply complete and return the registration form which will be sent to your home in the next few weeks.
If the details on your form are mostly correct, you will help us save money by registering using free-phone, text message or via the internet.
If you use one of these services you will not need to return a paper form, but make sure you have the form to hand when registering electronically.
Register by freephone on 0800 025 1027 (24hrs) | If you wish to confirm that the details on the form are correct, or change whether the people listed on your form appear on the edited register, then call 0800 025 1027. When prompted please enter both parts of your security code. |
Register by text message to 07797 898 727 (24hrs, standard network rates apply) | If all of the details on your form are correct, then text your two security codes, separated by a space, to 07797 898 727. For example, if your Security Code Part 1 is 123456 and your Security Code Part 2 is 9876, you would text 123456 9876 to 07797 898 727. |

If you cannot get to a polling station you can still ensure that your voice is heard by voting by post.
To apply for a postal vote, simply make sure that you tick the relevant box when you return your voting registration form, a postal vote application form will then be posted to you for completion.
