Local Code of Conduct Complaints process
Changes to the complaints procedure
From 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a councillor may have breached the Code of Conduct is moving from the Standards Board for England to the Standards Committee of local authorities.
How to make a complaint
This change in responsibility means that if you wish to make a complaint about the conduct of a Vale of White Horse District Councillor, or a member of one of the town or parish councils in the Vale, you must submit your complaint to:
The Standards Committee
Vale of White Horse District Council
Abbey House
Abingdon
OX14 3JE
01235 540305
email: democraticservices@whitehorsedc.gov.uk
How will this complaint be dealt with?
If you make a complaint relating to the Code of Conduct, which a sub-committee of the Standards Committee will consider, the complaint must state why you think a councillor or a member of a Vale parish or town council or a co-opted committee member has not followed the Code of Conduct.
The assessment sub-committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a councillor, a member of one of our parish or town councils or a co-opted member. It will not deal with complaints about matters that are not covered by the councillors' Code of Conduct such as standards of Council service. If you wish to make a complaint about a Council service see How to make a comment, complaint and suggestion.
