The Council runs a work experience programme each year to give young people an opportunity to learn about the work of the Council and experience a variety of careers which are available in local government.

The Council’s Youth Development Strategy (2006-09) sets out the Council’s vision to provide better opportunities for good quality work placements and to encourage local businesses to do the same. For more information about this, please see our Youth Development Strategy page.
In 2008 the Council adopted a policy to support the work experience programme and formalise it’s commitment to offering work placements to young people who live or go to school in and around the Vale.
The programme is managed by the Council’s Human Resources Department but works in partnership with the Youth Development Co-ordinator to develop and improve the programme to meet the needs of young people.
