If you are liable to pay Council Tax and are on a low income, you may be entitled to help with paying your Council Tax bill.
You can be renting a whole house, a flat, or a bedsit to be eligible. If you own your home you still may be entitled to help with your Council Tax bill.
If your income, savings and investments are too high to qualify for Council Tax benefit, you may be able to claim second adult rebate as long as you have at least one adult living with you who is on a low income, and is not paying you any rent. You will not usually qualify for second adult rebate if you have a partner. The maximum you can claim is 25 per cent of your Council Tax. For more details see our page on Council Tax discounts and exemptions.
Council Tax benefit is available to single people, families, couples, working people, retired people, the unemployed and anyone on a low income.
The rules are very complex and a low income can be difficult to define. If you would like more advice on whether you are entitled to this benefit please contact the Benefits Section using the contact details on the right, or call in to one of the Local Service Points at Abingdon or Wantage. For maps showing where the Council's offices are please see How to find our offices.
