Housing benefit

If you rent your home and are on a low income or are receiving welfare benefits, you may be entitled to housing benefit to help pay your rent.

These pages explain how you can make a claim for this benefit, how your claim will be dealt with and how this benefit will be paid if your claim is successful. There is also information about what you need to do if your circumstances change as this may alter the amount of benefit you are entitled to receive.

You may also be eligible for the Council's Deposit guarantee scheme which aims to help people on benefits or a low income to rent a place to live as it means you don't need to provide your own deposit. For more information about renting in the private sector please also see our Advice on private renting pages.

If you would like more advice please contact our Benefits Team using the contact details on the right.
