Anyone who breeds dogs for sale is classed as keeping a "breeding establishment". A licence is required for anyone who keeps four or more breeding bitches.
The Council, when deciding if a person is carrying out a business of breeding dogs for sale, may include any bitches used for breeding at a premises under the control of that person and any bitches at other premises whether under their direct or indirect control.
The Council may also consider a person is carrying out a business of breeding dogs for sale if there is sufficient evidence to reach that conclusion even if fewer than four bitches produce litters in a year.
You can apply for this licence using the application form on the right of the page. Please send the completed form, together with the annual licence fee of £108, to the Licensing Unit - see the contact details on the right.
