Alcohol and entertainment licences - temporary events notice

The limits of a temporary event notice

  • You must give at least ten working days notice before the event to the Vale's Licensing Unit and the Police 
  • You must have no more than 499 people (including staff/organisers) attending at any one time  
  • The event can last up to a maximum of 96 hours  
  • There must be a 24 hour gap between each notice  
  • A maximum of 50 events per year can be applied for by a personal licence holder - see our Personal licence page for more details about this licence. 
  • A maximum of five events per year can be applied for by those without a personal licence - our Personal licence page for more details about this licence.   
  • A limit of 12 event notices may be given in respect of any particular premises in a calendar year.  
  • The maximum aggregate duration of the periods covered by temporary event notices at any individual premises is 15 days.   

How to apply for a temporary event notice 

  • Complete the temporary events notice application form - this can be downloaded from the right of the page. There are strict limits on temporary event notices, so it is important that you read and understand the notes on the bottom of the form.
  • Send one copy to the police for the area in which the premises are located. If the event is happening in  the Vale of White Horse District Council area, send the notice to:

  • Send two copies and the fee of £21 to the local authority for the area in which the proposed event is to take place. If it is taking part in the Vale of White Horse District Council area, send the event notice to:

  • You can make payment by credit or debit card and you can also pay by cheque. Cheques should be made payable to Vale of White Horse District Council.
