How to report someone breaking the smokefree law

If you see someone smoking in a smokefree place or vehicle, you can report this to the national freephone smokefree compliance line on 0800 587 166 7. Any complaints made about premises or people in the Vale breaking the law will be forwarded onto the Council’s Environmental Health Team to follow up.

If you make a call to the compliance line, you can ask to remain anonymous. However if would be helpful to give your details so that officers can contact you if they need further information when they look into the matter. Also, we cannot let you know the outcome of your complaint if you do not leave your details.

You can also email or contact the Vale’s Environmental Health Team directly using the contact details on the right. To help us investigate the complaint, please give as much detail as possible, including: 

• The name of the premises where you saw someone smoking illegally 
• The date and time you saw this happen
• Whereabouts in the premises it happened
• Whether the manager or owner was aware of it happening at the time.
