Need help with a grot spot?

The Vale's environment wardens Colin Marshall and Gary Marcham can help co-ordinate action to clean up problem areas or "grot spots" in the Vale.

Grot spots are likely to be areas which have been neglected for some time and for which no-one appears to responsible for looking after.

They can be big or small areas on private or publicly owned land. As well as looking unsightly and bringing down the tone of an area, they may even present a danger to the public if no action is taken to clear them up.

A grot spot could also be an area which:

  • Suffers from repeated or long-term environmental crime such as fly-tipping or litter
  • If left alone is likely to get worse

If you know of any areas like this within your community that you would like our wardens to investigate please get in touch with them using the contact details on the right of the page.

What action is taken will depend on the problems experienced in each individual case but the wardens will try to kickstart the clean-up campaign by working out who is responsible for the land and who should co-ordinate the action.

If you are reporting a grot spot please give as much information as you can to assist the wardens, including:

  • The exact location of the grot spot
  • The nature of the problems experienced there
  • How long there has been a problem there
  • Who is responsible for the area - if this is known

Clearing up grot spots forms part of the wardens work towards meeting the Council’s strategic objective of keeping the Vale a clean place to live
