The Council’s powers on pest control

The Council has no legal duty to treat infestations of pests. The only statutory duty it has is to serve notices on the owners or occupiers of places or land that are infested requiring them to get rid of the infestation.

If you are aware of a problem with pests please contact the Environmental Health Team so they can investigate and if necessary, serve notices requiring the problem to be dealt with.

The Vale also provides a professional pest control service to help householders and businesses deal with pest control problems. There is no requirement for the Council to provide this service – many Councils do not.
