Rats and mice

Rats

Rats are known to spread disease such as salmonella, Weils disease and other food poisoning organisms. They can also cause damage to foodstuffs and also to property by gnawing through wires and cables.

The Council’s pest control officers can treat and eradicate rat infestations in both domestic and commercial premises.

Please note that the treatment of rats cannot be guaranteed for periods longer than two weeks after eradication as rats can re-infest an area which was previously inhabited by another rat family. A further charge would  be made for new treatments.

Mice

Mice are also known to spread disease and cause damage by chewing, and can contaminate stored food with urine and faeces.

The Council’s pest control officers can treat mice infestations.

To request the services of the pest control officers please call 01235 520202. For details of charges for treating rats an mice, please see Pest control charges.
