Environmental health

The Environmental Health Team works to protect and improve the District’s environment. The department is made up of two teams: 

• The Food and Safety Team – This team deals with food safety, and health and safety in many workplaces, as well as licensing issues.  
• The Environmental Protection Team - This teams deals with noise and pollution prevention and control. This includes local environmental quality matters and also pest control services.

Air quality and pollution

See these pages to find out how the Council is monitoring air pollution and what it is doing to control possible sources of pollution. There are also tips on how you can help reduce air pollution and how to report an air quality problem.

Contaminated land

Find out what contaminated land is and what the Council can do about it. These pages also explain how you can find out if your property is on contaminated land.

Fly-tipping, litter and other environmental crimes

These pages give details about the work going on to help make the Vale a cleaner and greener place, which includes catching and prosecuting fly-tippers as well as fining people who drop litter, let their dogs foul or commit graffiti. Food safety

Find out how the Food and Safety Team works to ensure that high food safety and hygiene standards are maintained in around 1,000 food premises in the Vale. Health and safety

Licensing

The Council is responsible for issuing and enforcing a wide range of licences, permits and registrations. Noise nuisance

This section explains what noise nuisance is and what the Council can do about it. There are also tips on what to do if you are suffering from a noise problem as well as what you can do to avoid causing such a nuisance, as well as detailed information about a number of specific noise problems ranging from barking dogs to noisy pubs and clubs.

Pest control

The Vale provides a professional pest control service for householders or businesses affected by rats, mice and insects including fleas, wasps and bees. See here for details of how to request the services of the Council’s pest control officers, and for details of charges. 

Stray dogs

The Council has a duty to deal with stray dogs found in its area. This page gives details of how to report a stray dog and what the Council can do to deal with it.
