Repairs Grant

Applicants should be aware that grant conditions are subject to change and the Council can only provide grant on the basis of current grant conditions. Grants are available subject to budget. The grants budget is prioritised to allow mandatory grants to be given preference over discretionary grants.

What is the Repairs Grant?

This grant is to assist homeowners* in receipt of certain benefits, over the age of 60, with children under the age of 16 and those with a disability with minor building repairs up to £750. These repairs could include:

  • Defective stairs, floors or steps.
  • Disrepair to windows.
  • Defects to wiring.
  • Dampness.
  • Disrepair to drains.
  • Disrepair to basic amenities where renewal necessary.
  • Minor structural faults.
  • Essential works to maintain the property in a safe, secure and weather proof condition.

* If you are a park home owner there is a similar grant you can apply for called the Park Homes Grant.

An applicant must have a legal obligation to carry out the work. The works should not have an alternative remedy for example insurance or defect caused by another owner. No more than two grants will be approved within a three year period. There shall be a six month space between grants being approved.

Who is eligible?

  • To be eligible for the Repairs Grant you must meet the same criteria set out for the Government’s Warm Front Grant - for more information see Grants and discounts for heating
  • A three year residency period will be required for all applicants. The grant is not repayable
  • Normally, any works would be carried out by Anchor Staying Put home improvement agency. In certain circumstances residents would be able to organise the works themselves
  • The grant will only be offered if there are no alternative sources of funding available.

How do I apply?

For an application form or to discuss the grant please call the Housing Operations Team on 01235 520 202.
