Buying a property, accommodation outside the Vale and home swap schemes

Buying a property

To buy a property on the open market in the Vale you need to have either a considerable income or savings.  Specialist advice on purchasing your own home is available through mortgage advisors and estate agents who advertise in Yellow Pages, on the internet and in local property papers.

Accommodation outside the Vale

You may want to consider pursuing housing solutions outside the Vale. Property and rental prices can be significantly cheaper in other parts of the country, particularly in the Midlands, Wales and the North.

The Home Swap scheme helps households move to social and private rented homes in other parts of the country. They provide details of available properties and manage Home Swap which enables social housing tenants to exchange to different parts of the country. For more information visit the Home Swap website or call 0845 606 6161.

Please be aware that swapping your home may affect your tenancy rights. You should speak to your current landlord for further information.

Mutual exchange

If you want to move within the Vale, the Mutual Exchange Scheme allows you to swap your home with another social housing tenant. It is a self-help scheme, where you advertise your own property. You can join the Exchange Register by contacting the Vale Housing Association. You could also advertise your property in newsagents or local papers.
