Here is a summary of the main proposals for Wantage and Grove. A map detailing these proposed sites can be downloaded from the right of the page.
Housing: It is likely that a further 250 homes will have to be built on green fields, in addition to those already planned at Grove to meet the requirements set out in the South East Plan. However, the north east of Wantage, which sits in Grove Parish, has been identified as an alternative site to Abingdon for 1,500 homes – see our page Proposals for Abingdon. If the development of these extra homes went ahead it could help deliver the Wantage north eastern relief road more quickly and provide financial contributions to improve Wantage leisure centre.
Jobs: A new business park could be built in the area.
Town centre: The aim is that over the next 20 years the area around Wallingford Street, Waitrose and Campbells Yard east of Market Place will be redeveloped to complement the Limborough Road development while preserving the distinctive character of the town.
Transport: Land will be safeguarded for a new rail station for Grove. There will be two new roads, one to the north of Grove and one to the north east of Wantage, funded by the new development.
