How to view and comment on current planning applications

Before proceeding please take a few seconds to read our step-by-step guide on How to view a planning application online.

For lists of all planning applications we have processed on a weekly basis see Weekly lists of planning applications processed.

If you know the planning application reference number you can also View and comment on an application online using our Public Access system. Please note Public Access has been designed for best use with Microsoft Internet Explorer - it may not be possible to access the system with other internet browsers.

Tips on how to view plans online

Once you are in this system you need to choose the Application Search facility and then type in the application reference number in the box entitled Alternative Reference Number.

  • That should then bring up the application details, and the current status of the application
  • If you choose the Click to View option you are then given further details, including the name of the planning officer dealing with that application, the applicant’s details and the deadlines by which you can comment on the application
  • To view details of the proposal click Associated Documents.

You can also view details of planning applications at the Abingdon Local Services Point, Abbey House, Abingdon. For a map showing where the Council's offices are please see How to find our offices. The offices are open to the public 8:45am to 5:15pm on Mondays and 8:45am to 5:00pm on Tuesdays to Fridays.

How to comment on an application

You can do this online using the Public Access system. Once you have found the application you wish to comment on (following the steps outlined above) and have chosen to view more details about the application you need to select the Submit Comments button at the top of the page.

Alternatively you can submit comments on an application by writing to:

            Planning Services
Vale of White Horse District Council
            Abbey House
            Abingdon
            OX14 3JE

You can also send us comments using the contacts on the right.

When commenting on planning applications, please ensure that what you say is relevant to planning, as the Council can only take into account material planning considerations. For more information see Relevant planning issues.

Please be aware that if the planning application you are commenting on relates to alterations or extensions to a dwelling or ancillary development within the curtilage of a new dwelling and planning permission is refused, any representations you make will be forwarded to the Planning Inspectorate in the event of an appeal being lodged, and you will not be given an opportunity to make any further representations.

How are these comments listened to?

If you have commented on an application which is being determined by the Development Control Committee, about ten days before the meeting you will be informed by letter of the date, time and venue of the Committee meeting. For information on how to address the Committee please see How to speak at a planning meeting.

All written comments will also be reported to the Committee either on the agenda or by officers at the meeting.
