Only the person who made the application for planning permission can appeal against a decision. Appeals are made to the Planning Inspectorate and are considered by an independent planning inspector, appointed by the Secretary of State.
Most are handled in writing although some may need to be decided by a hearing before an Inspector. A few are decided after a public inquiry.
The deadline for lodging an appeal is six months from the date of the application decision letter. This applies to all planning, listed building and conservation area consent appeals.
Every week the Vale publishes a list of current and recent planning and enforcement appeals, which gives details of what stage the appeal is at, and the decision, if it has been made. See Weekly lists of current and recent planning and enforcement appeals.
