Regional planning

Regional planning is set out in the draft South East Plan, more formally known as the Regional Spatial Strategy for South East England, prepared by the Regional Assembly. For more details see the South East Plan website

This will help guide development in the period to 2026. Together with the Vale's Local Development Framework (LDF) documents and the Minerals and Waste development plan documents it is the Development Plan for the area.

The South East Plan sets the planning policy context for the Council’s future development plan work as part of its Local Development Framework (LDF).

The Secretary of State has now published Proposed Changes to the draft South East Regional Spatial Strategy.  The documents for consultation and all supporting documents including the Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulation Assessment are available through the Consultation portal.

Consultation will close on Friday 24 October 2008 and, where possible, comments should be made through the portal. Alternatively comments can be sent by post to:  The RSS Team, Government Office for the South East, 1 Walnut Tree Close, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4GA; by e-mail to rss@gose.gsi.gov.uk, or by fax to 01483 882489.

A partial review of the South East Plan is also underway to establish pitch provision for Gypsies and Travellers. Public consultation is underway until 21 November 2008. Further details can be found on the South East Plan website by clicking on the Consultation tab and then the Gypsy and Traveller Update tab in the drop down menu.

The area to the west of the Vale, including the Swindon Borough Council area, is covered by the South West Plan. For more details see our South West Plan page.
