Development Plan

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 changed how planning policy documents would be prepared. This also affects what constitutes the "Development Plan" for any area. The Development Plan is important because it is the principle context against which any proposal for development should be assessed.

In essence, what comprises the Development Plan in the Vale can be summarised as follows:

Before the change in the planning system:

  • Regional Planning Guidance for the South East, RPG 9
  • Oxfordshire Structure Plan 2016, adopted 2005
  • Vale of White Horse Local Plan 2011, adopted 2006
  • Oxfordshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan, adopted 1996

After the change in the planning system:

  • Regional Spatial Strategy for the South East
  • Vale Local Development Framework document
  • Oxfordshire Minerals and Waste Development Framework

There will be an interim period since the regional spatial strategy, the local development framework and the minerals and waste development framework documents will only become the "new" Development Plan and replace the "old" Development Plan once they have been adopted.
